Lori K. Johnstone–Clarke, B.A., LL.B.

 

Lori Johnstone-Clarke, B.A., LL.B., is a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of the Mistawasis Cree First Nation.  Lori was raised on the reserve and has always been actively involved in advocating on behalf of First Nations’ people.  As a result of her rearing and through the encouragement of her parents and grandparents, Ms. Johnstone-Clarke succeeded in becoming a lawyer for the purpose of assisting the people, specifically people without a voice.

 

Ms. Johnstone-Clarke has gained valuable experience working directly with First Nation Bands and Organizations and is familiar with the many business structures they operate.  Lori has assisted First Nations specifically with respect to Treaty Rights Protection, First Nation Issues involving general land related, Band business and governance matters; Trust; Elections; Bylaw and Policy development; Administrative; Employment and Labour; Gaming; Business; Corporate; and Civil Litigation. Further, Ms. Johnstone-Clarke’s practice has included working with Trustees specifically related to TLE reserve creation and has further assisted Trustees with respect to the development of Trust policies for administrative purposes.  

  

Ms. Johnstone-Clarke has appeared before the Provincial Court and the Court of Queen’s Bench.  Lori was also a part of a legal team for both the Firearms and First Nations Governance Act legal challenges.  She assisted these legal challenges by preparing legal documents for an interlocutory injunction, conducted interviews and prepared affidavits and prepared legal memoranda to be heard before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. 

 

Ms. Johnstone-Clarke accepts Legal Aid applicants and Court Appointments dealing with both Criminal and Family law matters. Lori is presently in the process of completing training as a certified Mediator through the Dispute Resolution Office.
